Muscle Energy Technique (MET)

Muscle Energy Technique (MET) is a manual therapy technique that uses the gentle muscle contractions of the client to relax and lengthen muscles and normalize joint range of motion. This technique is used by sports therapists, physiotherapists, chiropractors and osteopaths.

When muscles are hypertonic/ stiff they will cause the joint to become tight and restricted. In these cases, MET can relax the muscle and release the joint while the patient generally feels a sense of relaxation. MET is therefore used in the following circumstances:

  • To stretch muscles, especially those considered to be postural rather than phasic
  • To strengthen muscles
  • To relax muscles, especially useful for treating cramping muscles
  • To help regain correct muscle function
  • To reduce localized oedema

Muscle Energy Techniques can be used for anyone suffering with joint limitations or soft tissue related pain. Restricted movement can cause conditions like back pain, headache, scoliosis, sciatica, etc. Athletes or sedentary desk workers, children to elderly, chronic or acute pain.

Many athletes use MET as a preventative measure to guard against future muscle and joint injury. However, its mainly used by individuals who have a limited range of motion. Patients with any form of inflammation will also benefit as MET’s have circulatory functions and help to reduce Oedema.

  • Would you like to know more about the muscle energy techniques? Make a request today and we will schedule a consult and assess whether or not you’re a good candidate for muscle energy techniques. Our skilled Chiropractors/physical therapists will do a full assessment of your condition and needs.

Myofascial Release (MFR)

Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.

Injury, surgery, poor posture, or inflammation of tissues can create myofascial restrictions that produce pressure and pain upon sensitive structures. A myofascial release technique helps to detect restrictions and can facilitate the release of the fascia.

Who Might Benefit from MFR

MFR can be used to treat pain and increase mobility in patients with a wide range of conditions, including back pain, neck pain, fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome etc.

Athletes can also benefit. A number of sports injuries can be treated with MFR, including:

  • Repetitive strain injuries, often seen in long distance runners
  • Muscular imbalances, which lead to overuse in isolated joints and faulty movement patterns.

Positional Release Technique

Positional Release Techniques are gentle manual treatments that address pain and spasms by resetting muscle tone and enhancing circulation. These methods allow chronically tense tissues to relax and can be used as part of integrated therapeutic interventions that employ other soft tissue and joint normalization procedures.

How Does Positional Release Technique Work?

The process behind positional release techniques involves a neurological aspect that sends a signal to the brain to reduce muscle contraction and relieve chronic muscle spasms that do not respond to other therapeutic procedures.

Dr. Manas and his team can locate and assess problem areas on the body and provide treatment by placing the patient in a specific position for up to 90 seconds to achieve release. When release is attained, the patient is slowly taken out of the position and will immediately experience a significant decrease in discomfort.

Positional Release Therapy has proven itself as an effective treatment for many conditions, including:

  • Sprains/strains and sports related injuries
  • Chronic neck and back pain
  • Spinal and rib cage pain
  • Whiplash
  • Hip, knee & ankle pain
  • Shoulder, elbow, wrist & hand pain
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Orthopedic problems
  • Migraine headaches
  • Stress related disorders with physical manifestations

Can Positional Release Therapy Help My Condition?

Positional release is a safe and effective non-aggressive form of therapy suited to anyone with a history of acute or chronic pain. At our clinic, Dr. Manas will discuss your symptoms and determine whether your symptoms can be alleviated or eliminated using PRT techniques. Chiropractic Manipulation

Chiropractic adjustment, also known as chiropractic manipulation, manual manipulation, or spinal manipulation, is a common therapeutic treatment for back pain.

A chiropractic adjustment typically involves:

  • A high velocity, short lever arm thrust applied to a vertebra.
  • An accompanying, audible release of gas (joint cavitations) that is caused by the release of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide, which releases joint pressure (cavitations).

Chiropractic adjustment is a procedure in which trained specialists (chiropractors/Physiotherapist/ Osteopath) use their hands or a small instrument to apply a controlled, sudden force to a spinal joint. The goal of this procedure, also known as spinal manipulation, is to improve spinal motion and improve your body’s physical function.

Not everyone responds to chiropractic adjustments. A lot depends on your particular situation. If your symptoms don’t begin to improve after several weeks of treatments, chiropractic adjustment might not be the best option for you.

Graded Joint Mobilization

Joint mobilization is a type of manual therapy technique and Dr. Kumar  performs many specialized mobilization techniques such as Maitland, Mckenzy, Mulligan techniques etc. It involves the passive movement of specific joints using the skilled application of force, direction, and technique. Our experienced qualified team use his or her hands to mobilize an affected joint or may elect to use certain tools, including straps, to help deliver the desired treatment effect.

We apply specific type, magnitude, speed, and frequency of joint mobilization performed depends on several factors, including the goal of treatment, the type of joint being targeted, and even your own unique anatomy. The primary effects of joint mobilizations include pain reduction, improved range of motion, and improved quality of joint movement itself (known as arthrokinematics).

What conditions can benefit from joint mobilization?

Joint mobilization isn’t appropriate for all patients, Dr. Kumar and his skilled and experienced team can determine if it’s right for you or a loved one. Specific conditions which our team successfully manage with joint mobilizations include:

  • Arthritis (especially of the shoulder, spine, elbow, hip, and knee)
  • Rotator cuff tears and sprains
  • Adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder)
  • Golfer’s or tennis elbow
  • Ankle sprains
  • Sciatica and other types of nerve impingement syndromes
  • Spinal misalignments

Carniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, non-invasive, hands-on healing modality that focuses on the wave-like rhythmic pulse that goes through the entire body. This therapy stems from osteopathy, which is an approach that emphasizes the role of the musculoskeletal system in health and disease.

The goal of craniosacral therapy is to facilitate the release of physiological restrictions or stuck energies your body may be holding on to. These stuck / trapped energies are due to unprocessed, unresolved past emotional experiences of all sorts and traumas your body has not forgotten and hasn’t released.

This is now catching up to you and making itself felt. Pain, spasm, fatigue, head pain, any symptom felt by you is a direct link from inside your body of negative, unpleasant, difficult, unexpected emotions you have experienced in your life that the body has not forgotten. Energy of this emotion is stuck in your body.

Once pain and symptoms disappear, conditions reverse, you will be in a position to feel bliss, euphoria, happiness, stillness, calmness and the feeling of a content balanced nervous system in your body. All are effects ultimately of an optimally functioning Craniosacral Mechanism, free of impeding energies.

Craniosacral Therapy can provide people relief from:

  • TMJ
  • Scoliosis
  • Headache
  • Neck and Back Pain
  • Shoulder Pain
  • Insomnia
  • Torticollis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Other Conditions
